Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about Anti Mosquito.

General

Anti Mosquito generates high-frequency sound waves (15-22 kHz) that are designed to repel mosquitoes. These ultrasonic frequencies are at the upper range of human hearing and are uncomfortable for mosquitoes. The app uses your device's speaker to emit these sounds continuously or on a timer.
Scientific evidence for ultrasonic mosquito repellence is mixed. Some users report success while others see limited effects. Effectiveness may vary based on:
  • Mosquito species in your area
  • Environmental conditions
  • Your device's speaker capabilities
  • Selected frequency range
We recommend using this app as a supplementary measure alongside proven mosquito control methods.
Most adults cannot hear frequencies above 17-18 kHz, though this varies by age and individual. Children and young adults may hear some of the lower frequency settings. The 20-22 kHz range is typically inaudible to humans but may still affect mosquitoes.

Features

Anti Mosquito offers three operation modes:
  • Continuous: Runs indefinitely until you stop it manually
  • Timer: Runs for a set duration (15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, 3 hours, or custom)
  • Sleep: Optimized for nighttime use with optional screen dimming
Different mosquito species may respond to different frequencies. We provide presets based on common ranges:
  • 16 kHz: Lower frequency, may work for some species
  • 18 kHz: Mid-range, good general starting point
  • 20 kHz: Higher frequency, less audible to humans
  • 22 kHz: Maximum frequency, ultrasonic range
You can also use the slider to fine-tune between 15-22 kHz. We recommend experimenting to find what works best in your environment.
Yes! Anti Mosquito continues playing sounds even when:
  • Your screen is locked
  • You switch to other apps
  • Your phone is in your pocket
The app uses iOS background audio capabilities to ensure continuous protection.

Safety & Concerns

High-frequency sounds may affect pets, particularly:
  • Dogs and cats: Can hear up to 45-65 kHz and may find it uncomfortable
  • Rodents: Very sensitive to ultrasonic frequencies
  • Birds: Generally less affected but varies by species
We recommend monitoring your pets' behavior and discontinuing use if they show signs of distress. Consider using the app only when pets are not in the immediate area.
The frequencies used are generally considered safe for humans of all ages. However:
  • Children have better high-frequency hearing and may hear the sounds
  • If a child complains of discomfort, reduce the frequency or stop use
  • Keep volume at moderate levels
  • Not recommended for prolonged use at maximum volume
No, the app is designed to work within safe parameters for your device. The frequencies and volume levels used are within the normal operating range of iPhone speakers. However, we recommend:
  • Not using maximum volume for extended periods
  • Taking breaks during long sessions
  • Using the timer mode for automatic shutoff

Technical

Anti Mosquito requires:
  • iOS 17.0 or later
  • iPhone 12 or newer (for best speaker performance)
  • Also works on iPad with compatible speakers
Note: Some older devices may not effectively produce frequencies above 20 kHz due to hardware limitations.
Continuous audio playback does use battery power. To optimize battery life:
  • Use timer mode instead of continuous when possible
  • Lower the screen brightness or use sleep mode
  • Close other unnecessary apps
  • Consider using while charging overnight

Troubleshooting

If you don't hear the sound, it may still be working! Many people cannot hear frequencies above 17-18 kHz. To verify:
  1. Check that the wave animation is active
  2. Try lowering the frequency to 15-16 kHz temporarily
  3. Ensure your phone is not on silent mode
  4. Check that volume is turned up
  5. Try using earphones to test (briefly, at low volume)
This shouldn't happen as the app supports background playback. Try:
  1. Ensure you have the latest version of the app
  2. Check iOS Settings > Anti Mosquito > Background App Refresh is ON
  3. Restart your device
  4. Reinstall the app if the issue persists
